50th Anniversary Celebrations |
|
This year our Club celebrates its 50th Anniversary! From humble beginnings playing on donated land on what is now called Henwood Park on Lake Albert Road to Wagga's largest Football Club of any code today, we have helped many thousands of players enjoy the Great Game.
To celebrate, our 50th Anniversary Committee has planned an "Oldies Game" (with modified rules and duration) to be held at Gissing Oval on Satuday 9th August at 1:30pm. Each of the other 8 games scheduled for Gissing Oval on that day will also feature a Henwood Park team, from the U/10 Panthers at 9:00am to the Pascoe Cup Hawks at 3:00pm and Senior Girls at 3:30pm, so why not join us and make a day of it! If you're an ex-player and would like a run give Peter Thomas a call on 6921 3160 (BH).
Also on Saturday 9th August there will be a Reunion Dinner at the Wagga RSL Club from 6:30. You don't have to be an ex-player to come though - it's sure to be a great night with more than one tall story told, and the guest speaker will be Mick Hornby. Tickets have been selling well so get yours soon - $40 per head from Lynne de Jong ph 6922 5392 or Peter Thomas at OPSM in Baylis St (phone number above). Note that ticket sales will close on 6th August for catering requirements, and will not be available at the door so act soon or you may miss out.
The Anniversary Committee has also been working on a book with interesting anecdotes, stories and photos from the past 50 years, to be published later this year. If you have anything you'd like to contribute please contact Lynne at the number given above.
